Tonight’s post comes to you from Notepad, on account of my internet connection being flaky. Everything seems to be out except for Brett’s AIM connection…

…and, speak of the devil, we’re back. Time to copypasta this text into WordPress.

Not much of note happened today. Brett and I went to Baskin-Robbins. I had a waffle cone with a scoop of Pink Bubblegum and a scoop of Cherry Jubilee. Apparently Tuesdays are dollar-scoop nights (from 6:00 to 10:00 PM). There were a ton of students there when we went at 8:30.

TotD:

Who do you think killed JFK?

I’m not much for conspiracy theories — I’m willing to believe it really was Lee Harvey Oswald. The main reason for all the skepticism was that Johnson ordered the Warren Commission to finish its report as quickly as possible and, supposedly, urged them to pin the crime on a U.S. citizen if at all possible so as not to damage foreign relations (i.e., Johnson feared that if the WC named a Cuban national or someone like that, public outcry would force the U.S. into a nuclear war). At least, this is what I heard on NPR several months back. I think it was a Sarah Vowell piece. Anyway, the investigation wasn’t done as thoroughly as it should’ve been; the people in charge kind of knew what the outcome would be regardless of the evidence. So even though it was very likely Oswald, the report wasn’t terribly convincing and made it look like someone was trying to hide the truth (which was really the case, kinda). I haven’t researched this stuff, but that version sounds pretty reasonable, IMHO.

Hm… what else… I’m looking forward to the Republican candidate debate on the 3rd. And apparently there’s going to be another on the 15th on FOX News…? (Last I heard, this was still kind of shaky.) The Democratic debate was pretty good and I think the Republican one’s bound to be more lively even though Mike Gravel won’t be there. (When it comes to cranky, outspoken old men, neither party’s very lacking. But I think the Republicans have a slight edge.)
