4:16 pm, Saturday, April 21st, 2007Another day of working the unloading area at the dog show. Things were really slow today, so most of the time I just sat in my super-comfortable folding chair and talked to Bill or listened to my This American Life MP3s. Things went smoothly with the folks who’d come through yesterday since they already knew the drill. One lady was difficult… apparently she’d been “doing this for twenty years” and somehow, through the distorted lens of her own screwy logic, this meant she didn’t need to follow the rules. But I got tipped again by that same lady from yesterday, so I guess it all evened out.
Yesterday I drove home after my shift ended. I suppose it was a good idea since, right after I made my blog post, I went to sleep and didn’t get up until I had to start getting ready at 4:10 AM. (If I’d stayed, I probably would’ve gotten less sleep.) But I’m staying in Lewiston tonight.
I’m actually at that “internet cafe” (the one I mentioned on Thursday) right now. Unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. For one thing, you have to walk up a flight of stairs from a narrow entrance on the street to get to it. There are no windows. It’s actually more of a LAN gaming place and it’s populated almost entirely by children playing MMOs who keep shouting directions to each other. Oh yeah, and they don’t take credit cards. The last place I expected to need actual cash was an internet cafe. As a result, I’ve only got an hour here — good thing I got tipped earlier.
Of course, their wifi is totally unprotected and the signal strength is good enough that I should be able to connect from where my car is parked. Hmm…
Since I’m staying the night, I’ll be helping sweep the show rings at 6:00 tonight. It doesn’t take long and I think they pay us a flat fee for doing it.
Fast Food: Ads vs. Reality is a nifty little site. They juxtapose actual photos of fast food items with the images the companies use in advertisements. It looks like it’s still ongoing — the “Arby’s Beef ‘n’ Cheddar” was just added today.
I’m not super keen on hanging around here any longer. It’s too much like an opium den. (Well, if opium dens were filled with twelve year-olds, whiny teenage girls, and bad videogame music.) See ya tomorrow, blogosphere.

the “Arby’s Beef ‘n’ Cheddar” made me rofl! boo on scary internet cafes!

That nifty little site you found makes me want to never have fast food again. Probably for the best anyway.
