Ah, my first post in the 2006 IMBC. Nine participants this year!

Jones and I saw the 9:50 pm showing of Slither earlier this evening. I have mixed feelings about the film… the good stuff: It has Mal from Firefly in it as the lead and Pam from The Office as a minor character, the music is great (especially the song at the end), it’s well paced, and there’s a lot of very funny moments — nearly every line of dialogue the mayor had was hilarious. The bad stuff: It’s too gruesome. Obviously one expects a high level of gore in a B-horror movie, but this was something else entirely. Actually, the most disturbing stuff wasn’t technically gore, but it was close enough.

Anyway, it was an interesting experience. I don’t think I’d recommend it to anyone except Justin — he’ll love it. The effects were generally good — pretty much all the CG stuff was great. Some of the prosthetics looked lame in close-ups, but it’s not terribly distracting.

Speaking of Jones, we were hanging out at Captain Phill’s earlier this week waiting for the vet truck to get washed and, well, I think we got “served.” Some kid (looked about 14 or 15) started rapping and dancing at us from across the parking lot. The lyrics I caught were fairly insulting, but we were too busy cracking up to care. Neither of us could tell what provoked him; we were just sitting there talking. It was surreal. Who knew west Pasco had become so urban?

Lots of great posts on Slashdot today… I love the new tagline — “OMG!!! PONIES!!!” Also worth checking out today: ThinkGeek’s April Fools products.

Read Walking Dead #26 and #27 last night. They were great of course, but the thing at the end of #27 seemed a little cheesy. I do like that Kirkman’s added brief recaps at the beginning of each issue though. I often have a hard time remembering such brief plot progressions from month to month. Like, I’d totally forgotten about the foreshadowing of the freaky bisexual’s three-way marriage proposal to Rick’s wife ’till Jones mentioned it.

Kay, that’s three hundred words and then some… I’m outta here. ;P
